Name: Adrian Russell Location: Adrian Russell Comments: My parents first visited Whitby on their honeymoon 28 years ago and have returned every year since. I have many fond memories of Whitby, one being crowned Whitby Sandcastle Champion by a gret bearded fella, one weekend whilst playing on the beach, just below the Pavillion when I was 9. I'll be bringing my family to Whitby. |

Comments:
Whitby has to
be the place to retire to. My wife and I have only recently re-located to
the North Yorks area and we just can't get enough of the place. Nice folk,
great ale, and a fantastic place to chill and be yourself. More Goths. I'm
not one myself, but I think they're fantastic.

Name: Ellen & Ken Benninger Location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Comments: In July of 1995 The Schneider Male Chorus Of Kitchener-Waterloo, situated in Waterloo County in the heart of south central Ontario had the great honor of visiting the Dalesmen Singers of North Yorkshire. We made many new friends that will last a lifetime. While there we had the opportunity to visit Runswick Bay, Staithes, Whitby, Danby, Castleton and all the surrounding area. We had a wonderful time. So much so my wife and I revisited the area once again in 1998. While there we travelled the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, with our friends from Whitby. What a thrill that was. And how picturesque Robin Hood Bay is. We hope tho see you again sometime. By the way, The Schneider Male Chorus will once again be visiting The Dalesmen and Whitby in May of 2004 |

Name: Jane Location: Surrey Comments: I visited Whitby 10 years ago and although I have been unable to visit again - something I hope to rectify next year - I have never forgotten the town and people. I plan in a few years to retire there. It has always been close to my heart and I keep in touch by photographs, books and films. I want to stand on the moors on a windy day and sing to my hearts content. I want to paddle in the sea with the cliffs of Staithes behind me. I want to stand at the end of the harbour at Whitby and shout "I made it!!" Look out Yorkshire here I come!! |

Comments: We came across Whitby on a day trip during our
first visit to Yorkshire and have returned numerous times. We love the town
and are thinking of buying a holiday home there. I like to wander around the
shops and have a cream tea in the Whitby Tea Rooms on Church Street, my
husband amuses himself in one of the 37 pubs (or is it 38 now the Shambles
is open). I can thoroughly recommend a stay and defy anyone not to fall in
love with the place!

Comments: came
across site whilst reading my DLnow mag.
Whitby is the most beautiful coastal town. Colin
and myself
have been coming every year since 1968. Every one
is so nice. The fishermen, the shop staff, the numerous landladies, even the
cheeky vendors. If we dont get our "fix" of Whitby, I think we would
go bonkers. We came as teenagers, and we still feel the same. (only, I"ve
got a wheelchair now, but it dos"nt stop us having a great time.)

Location: Comments: I am so pleased that i have come across this site, now i can keep a check on whats going on in and around Whitby. I have lived in Cumbria since 1987,but Whitby will allways be my home,we lived on Henrietta street until 1982 when we moved to Robin Hoods Bay and i have fond memories of coming home on winter nights having been out with my friends hearing the waves crashing on the pier and the wind howling yet the street was allways still and sheltered with the smell of kippers smoking in the night air.Wonderful memories which when remembered make me smile. When im home sometimes i take a walk up the street on a night when its quiet and its just the same as i remember only 20 years later. |

Although my husband is now a pensioner, he still likes getting up at 6.p.m. for a brisk walk along the seafront. The Abbey is second to none. However has anyone ever thought of installing a chairlift. |

| Name: Richard
Location: Canada Comments:Hi, I visited Whitby back in the early 80's, to take photographs of 2 tallships that were visiting at the time, I stayed at the Seacliffe Hotel, run by Julie Wilson, I was made to feel very welcome, the food was great, I found Whitby a wonderfull place to visit with all its history, I would suggest Whitby as a must see on any Holiday visit to North Yorkshire, and stay at the Seacliffe for a relaxing time. |
| Name:Emma
Location:KENT Comments:just spent a week in whitby with some friends and had a lovely time. a couple of things to say though , firstly why does everyone moan about the seagulls? they are there but they do not spoil the place at all. it wouldnt be the same without them!! i think something should be done about the dracula experience though as it is now completely boring and does nothing for the dracula connection with whitby. perhaps the council could look at a more fitting tribute or revamp the old one?? all in all though whitby is brilliant, the people are the friendliest i have met and harrys walks make any stay a pleasure!! looking forward to returning next year... with reinforcements!!! emma from kent. |
